Of green shoots and Beatles…

I was walking round the garden at the weekend and noticed that the snowdrops are back. Little beacons of perfection, marking the end of a long, and, frankly, rather weird, January. Green shoots – that’s what we need, and I hope you’ve noticed one or two emerging from your ARMA plant recently, including lots of interesting trailing creepers from our SIG groups, a bouquet of informative training courses and of course that hardy annual, the ARMA Conference, whereupon, as Treasurer and Keeper of the Compost, I’m delighted to see the early birds catching the discounted places, or maybe they’re just pursuing the Beatles… Enjoy your ARMA!

Hamish Macandrew,
Treasurer

Welcoming AfRE to ARMA

We’re delighted to launch the AfRE online resources as part of the ARMA website. Our pages now include AfRE’s Framework of Policies and Procedures for University Research Ethics Committees, useful links and a range of presentations exclusive to ARMA members. AfRE colleagues also bring with them a wealth of experience in research ethics. To find out more, click here.

You can also sign up for the next Research Ethics Management course, taking place on March 1 2017 in London.

Ways to engage with your Association

We need you! As we begin to shape the new ARMA governance structure, we’re looking for members to join the team of Committee and Board members. The new Finance & Governance Committee, formed to oversee ARMA’s financial and operational sustainability, is seeking new members who can bring a variety of expertise. Click here for more details.

If this isn’t for you, then why not think about contributing to the next edition of our member magazine, The Protagonist? We’re looking for articles, long and short, on things that matter to our members. Get in touch if you want to get involved.

Don’t be an April Fool…
get ready to renew!

It’s that time of year again! On 1 April 2017, all members will be asked to renew their membership, whether on an individual or group basis. As a recognition of the difficult year we have had – and the patience of all our members – we’re keeping the cost of membership at 2016 rates.

We’ll be circulating a guide on how to renew later in March, but now is the time for group leaders to check their records. Don’t know how? Then get in touch by emailing membership@arma.ac.uk.

Leadership in the Global Research Environment

We’re excited to see so many enquiries about our new Leadership in the Global Research Environment programme. Participants will have the opportunity to interact and learn from colleagues from around the globe, developing their leadership skills to operate in an international context. The programme includes study tours, webinars, and workshops, kicking off at the 2017 SRA International Annual meeting in Vancouver and finishing with INORMS 2018 hosted by ARMA in Edinburgh. For further details, email enquiries@arma.ac.uk.

CiteScore

Impact plays an important part in understanding the performance of a journal over time and making decisions about its future. It is impossible to get a true picture of impact using a single metric alone, so a basket of metrics is needed to support informed decisions.

Learn about Elsevier’s metric CiteScore, amongst others, at the ARMA Workshop ‘Data into Intelligence: Intelligence into Action!’.
