We are pleased to announce today that we have signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). The declaration recognises the urgent need to improve the ways in which the outputs of scientific research are evaluated by funding agencies, academic institutions and others.
What is the DORA Initiative?
DORA is a global initiative covering all scholarly disciplines and provides a set of recommendations in order to address this pressing issue whilst emphasising the importance of assessing the merits of research beyond the journal impact factor. As a creative agency specialising in academic communication, we feel DORA is a hugely relevant initiative, as we work hand-in-hand with researchers and research organisations to produce strategies and creative communications that promote the reach and impact of their research findings.
DORA recognises that while there will always be a place for the peer-reviewed journal, alternative outputs are rapidly growing in importance when assessing research effectiveness. With this in mind, while the recommendations of the DORA focus primarily on practices relating to research articles published in peer-reviewed journals, they can and should be extended to additional products including the research outputs that many of our clients are seeking to produce.
We look forward to continuing the working of delivering high quality creative communications for the academic sector, in line with the objectives laid out in DORA.
